Benjamin Bernstein didn't set out to become a spiritual teacher. Growing up in a secular Jewish family in Oklahoma, he was more skeptic than seeker—until an out-of-body experience at 17 cracked his worldview open.
That moment sent him searching. He found his first answers at a local meditation school, where he studied for nearly 20 years. It gave him community and structure, but eventually, the teachings grew too complicated. "I realized I didn't need more concepts," he says. "I needed to just be."
From Systems to Simplicity
That realization led him to Vipassana meditation—no dogma, just presence. Later, plant medicines like ayahuasca showed him how quickly layers could dissolve when approached with respect. But what stuck wasn't the visions; it was the reminder that healing often happens in ordinary moments, not just peak experiences.
These days, Benjamin's work revolves around one question: How can we stay awake in daily life? His practices are simple—morning hapé (a traditional sacred snuff), moments of pause, and a system he developed called Instant Divine Assistance (which he admits is a lofty name for what's essentially "remembering to check in with yourself").
What Actually Helps
After 50 years of exploring—from shamanism to astrology to guiding over 10,000 sessions—he’s less interested in esoteric theories and more focused on what works:

The goal isn’t to escape life, but to meet it
His book Instant Divine Assistance and membership community, Awakening Plus, reflect that practicality. No flashy promises—just ways to reconnect when you’ve drifted.
